Villa build progress | Part 1
And, just like that, we finally begin the journey of our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom Koh Phangan pool villa builds. It’s been a long time in the making but we are delighted that the time to start our latest Koh Phangan villa has finally arrived…get in!!!
The real villa build progress | Part 1 is the setting out of the house and the location of the footings to be dug with a wooden frame. You might have seen it on other Koh Phangan construction sites and wondered what it was.

Follow our Corner Cottages Koh Phangan Villa construction
Follow us and our progress with our construction and come along for the ride. We hope that we can demystify some of the gossip that we only too often hear floating around the Koh Phangan communities. You can see the construction progress as it unfolds and evolves from a few holes in the ground to a fully finished Koh Phangan pool villa ready for enjoying (or buying!).

Once the placement of the footings and the location of the columns are marked out the digging can begin! Boys toys? You bet!
villa build progress | Part 1 – Quality
We will try to show you the difference between lower and good quality materials, we use the former of course, so you can better gauge what really is a Koh Phangan bargain, or luxury house for that matter. As a former builder in the UK, it often pains us to see lower-quality builds given a final layer of ‘make-up’ and then a hefty price tag attached. We have a saying in the UK which too often comes to mind, ‘like putting lipstick on a pig’. Unfortunately what we can see as long-term contractors is not the same as the first-time buyer sees. Even more so when you add in the best practices for tropical designs/builds. Think of it this way. It’s easy to make a house look great when it’s just finished, it’s difficult for that house to still look good, with minimal maintenance after 5 years or so.
villa build progress | Part 1 – Footings excavated
I forgot how holes in the ground can look so good!

By the 2nd day, the footings are completely dug and the footings are ready for pouring the footing ‘pads’. Steel is then woven together to make a square which will be at the base of the columns. The larger, flatter, wider squares disperse the weight of the house into the ground. The steel of the columns is connected to the steel of the footing pads. Then the concrete is poured completing the footings and ground floor beam columns. The two materials complement each other when working together.

Anyway, I digress!…look at our progress and thank you for your interest.
